The Township of Schaumburg won the National Aging and Disability Center for Transportation’s 4th annual photo contest! The contest asked for photos that tell a story about transportation programs and illustrate the importance of mobility connections to older adults, persons with disabilities and caregivers as well as how agencies adjusted their transportation programs in response to COVID-19 pandemic.
The Township won first place for a photo of Bus Driver Rich Duwal delivering groceries to home-bound residents. This national contest highlighted photos from all over the United States.
The MaineStreamers department faced challenges this year due to Covid-19. Using only donations of art supplies and a color copier, we were able to recreate some of our favorite game show sets, including The Price is Right, Newlywed Game, Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, Concentration and Card Sharks. Each member of the staff was able to add input based on their own unique skill set by providing creativity, IT knowledge, and detailed understanding of game rules. As a department, we developed TV game show days. Maine Township MaineStreamers members participate as contestants while our staff serves as game show hosts and models. Just like in all the game shows we all remember from our childhood, the participants compete for valuable prizes ($5 gift cards from local restaurants, which also helped support local small businesses).
